Is there a Biblical Rationale for Church Planting?

Matthew 16:18 – “Upon this rock, I will build my church.” The church has a vital role in the redemptive plan of God.

Matthew 28:18-20 – “The Great Commission.” We are to be a “sent people.” Historically, new churches have been the most successful at “making disciples of all nations.”

Acts 2:41-47 – New converts are quickly assembled into “congregations” that continually multiply

Why another church?
Tim Keller, a pastor who planted a church in Manhattan 20 years ago, wrote a great article that explains why we need new churches all over the US.

Where will the church be located?
We desire to plant the church in downtown Little Rock. Our desire is to be centrally located, in the heart of the city, with a focus of rebuilding the inner city of Little Rock both physically and spiritually.

Do you have a building yet?
One exciting thing about a church plant is that it brings us back to the roots of what Jesus called the church to become. The word “church” actually means “a gathering.” In other words, a church in its essence is a group of people who are unified by common beliefs and a common cause. It is not a place or a building. Our primary focus right now is on gathering people who want to explore being part of this new movement in Little Rock.

Okay, so I get it…no building. So where will the church meet?
We will start by meeting in homes. We’ll gather in living rooms, eat dinner together and dream about the future. We anticipate to rent a facility in downtown Little Rock.
